Oman : OPWP announces RfP tender for technical advisory services to expand MIS grid capacity
Publish Date : 04-Feb-2016

On Tuesday, Oman Power and Water Procurement Co (OPWP) announced a request for proposal (RfP) tender for technical advisory services to develop the power procurement cycle to meet future demand in the sultanate's Main Interconnected System (MIS).

According to OPWP, it seeks proposals from interested bidders to offer technical advisory services for the competitive tendering of power capacity to secure an economic expansion of the MIS capacity for addressing future demand in 2021 and beyond. This procurement will follow the existing established procurement process and contract structure.

The tender documents will be available for purchase from February 2 to 11, with March 2 set as the last date for the submission of the documents.

The MIS extends across the governorates of Muscat and Buraimi, and most Al Batinah North, Al Batinah South, Dakhiliyah, Sharqiyah North, Sharqiyah South and Dhahirah, serving nearly 754,000 customers.

At about nine per cent per year, the MIS peak demand would grow from 5,122 MW in 2014 to 9,530 MW in 2021, said OPWP's latest 7-Year Statement. Energy consumption would likely increase at around the same rate, from 25 TWh in 2014 to 47 TWh in 2021 (in average demand terms, from 2,852 MW to 5,373 MW).

On Tuesday, OPWP even announced a tender for supervisory consultancy services for the Ibri and Sohar independent power projects (IPPs). OPWP will be appointing suitably qualified and experienced consultants to provide project management and technical consultancy services during the construction, commissioning and testing of the IPPs, which will comprise the sultanates largest power project.

The tender documents for the power projects will be available for purchase from February 2 to 14, with March 13 as the last date for document submission.
